Spotify HiFi Delays & The Messy Middle of Product Development

Read time – 5 minutes

Hey friends, Do you remember when Spotify first announced its lossless HiFi tier? That was back in 2021. Since then, we've seen promises, delays, and quiet hints, but nothing concrete ever launched. Now, in 2025, new code references are showing up again. Phrases like "Lossless music, now in premium" and "up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz" are surfacing inside the app. It's still not official, but clearly something is in motion.

🧠 Idea That Stuck With Me

What's something you worked on that got delayed, and what did you learn from it?

For me, it's often scope drift or overthinking that causes delay. But I've learned that momentum matters more than perfection. Shipping gets you feedback. Feedback sharpens the next step.

🛠 What I Reflected On This Week

Product Development Quote

From a product perspective, this story is familiar.

It's a reminder that even the biggest companies struggle with timing, licensing, prioritization, and internal alignment. Getting something from concept to market isn't just about engineering. It's about readiness, across the board.

Sometimes, the hardest part isn't building the feature. It's everything else around it.

If lossless does finally launch, it'll be a win for audio lovers. But for builders like us, it's also a quiet reminder of how much work happens between a public announcement and a real shipping product.

💬 Quick Thought

Just because something was announced doesn't mean it's coming soon. There's a whole messy middle between idea and launch, and we should give ourselves space to navigate it without shame.

Thanks for reading. This one was a bit more reflective, but sometimes those are the ones we need most. Let me know your thoughts. I'm always curious to hear what you're building, and what's been delayed (or shipped!) lately.
